    A series of three booklets produced in October 2009, by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)), are designed to provide basic information about MAT for opioid addiction including medication options for treatment – methadone, naltrexone, and buprenorphine. The booklets also explain how medication options fit into the overall recovery process.One booklet is directed at families and friends of patients entering MAT. The other two booklets present facts about naltrexone and buprenorphine and are directed at  patients entering MAT.

    About Methadone and Buprenorphine is a revised (2006) 50-page booklet from the Drug Policy Alliance (DPA) that covers most of the questions patients and their loved ones might have about Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT). There also is a brief discussion on buprenorphine, added in this 2nd edition. Written in nontechnical language, it gives facts, dispels myths, and also provides helpful tips on such topics as traveling with methadone, storing the drug, concerns about overdose, and much more.
